Low Diet-The Way To Your Long Life

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

by Haiyan Lai-Heskin

Low diet means low fat intake in your daily life. But there is some common misunderstanding out there.

To maintain our normal health we need proteins, carbohydrates, fats (which are also manufactured by the body), vitamins, minerals, and water. If you simply eat less or just cut fat out of you diet, you will lack in at least one of the essential nutrients.

In western counties people's diet is too rich in fat as well as calories, refined sugars, starches, and oils. At the same time, it is low in essential nutriments, minerals and other vital requirements.

The excessive intake of fats leads to the shortening of life, premature death by heart attacks and strokes, obesity, and numerous crippling illnesses.

The exact relationship between the amount of fat you eat and the production of cholesterol in your body is still a very complex question. The cholesterol found in the blood is made largely in the liver from fats in the diet. It is also produced in the arterial walls themselves. But the main source and the one that we can to a great extent control is fat in our food.

Cutting down and keeping in control the fat content is a main priority in our diet. Omega-3 and polyunsaturated are the healthy fats and should be eaten in avocados, fish and olive oil. Abundant amounts of these type foods should be in your diet.

Both men and women who achieved a large weight loss of about 20 pounds on the low-fat diet, were estimated to have a life expectancy of double that of people on a regular diet.

People on a low-fat or fat-free diet it is most certainly known now are virtually free from heart attacks and strokes, which are so common among people on a fat diet.

To lack understanding of foods is not the correct basis for a low diet. You are expected to eat palatable foods and not to be on a starvation diet.

Lowering your cholesterol with a low fat diet is the way to go for more energy, tighter muscles, firmer body and less bulk mass. A healthy low diet will not give you energy loss, but if you are overweight it will reduce your fat giving you lower cholesterol and making you feel much better in yourself.

5 Questions To Ask About Meal Replacement Diets

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

by Dorthy Weatherbush

Before undertaking a meal replacement program, you should ask some simple but very important questions. Protect your health and your pocketbook by asking the following five questions:

1. How effective is the program? The first thing you'll want to know is whether the program you're considering actually works. After all, your goal in starting a meal replacement program is to lose weight. Avoid programs that can't prove their effectiveness or provide little in the way of real guidance and support. If the program can't provide examples of successful clients, consider looking elsewhere.

2. What kind of professional supervision is provided? Meal replacement programs should always be undertaken while under proper medical supervision. Emotional support and medical evaluation are both critical to any weight loss program, particularly a meal replacement program. Because you are spending your time and money in a program, the program should offer you in return the professional guidance you need to be successful at reaching your goals.

3. What kind of ongoing maintenance support do you offer? Losing the weight is only the first step. It is the very beginning of a lifelong change in lifestyle and dietary habits. You will need support to stay on track once you've reached your goal weight. Choose programs that help keep you motivated and connected with follow up support, and offer options for intervention should you start to regain weight.

4. How much does it cost? The important point of this question is not that you should try to skimp out and choose the "cheapest" program, but you should choose a program that gives you your money's worth. You could end up paying thousands of dollars for food, enrollment fees, and other hidden fees for a regimen that is poorly designed that doesn't work. Furthermore, it may offer no training or support. However, a program that is less expensive could be highly effective. All in all, choose the best program that fits with your budget.

5. Are there hidden costs, and do you provide refunds? A weight loss program that offers a money back guarantee is the true mark of a confident program. A program that has confidence in its product and the competence of its support staff will always give you your money back if you aren't satisfied with the results. Reputable programs will be upfront with you regarding costs and what you will ultimately end up paying.

When you consider each of these factors, Medifast stands out from all the rest. Medifast offers a proven and effective program backed by solid medical support. They can help connect you with a physician familiar with the Medifast plan, and the cost of the program is reasonable - even less than what a single person typically spends each month on groceries. Unopened, unused products can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. Coaching and support is offered online and in person at Medifast centers across the country. Like countless others, discover how Medifast can help you lose weight and keep it off.

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

by Clayton Thomas

Do you want to lose that extra annoying flab on your thigh? It is possible, but if you think that you can lose thigh fat quickly with the help of quick weight loss pills or supplements, you are dead wrong! And if you thought that there is some special workout you could do to lose thigh fat, you are wrong again.

As a matter of fact, whether you want to lose thigh fat, belly fat, arm fat, or any other fat, there is no way for you to spot reduce certain areas of your body. You have to lose fat in all areas of your body. You can't pick and choose where you want to burn fat; your body will decide where to start for you!

Therefore, it only makes sense to do things that would help you burn fat from all parts of your body. Basically, you want to follow a healthy diet and do resistance training and cardio workouts! This is the only way to lose thigh fat, as well as all other body fat!

1. The diet: The diet you choose to follow for the purpose of weight loss is very crucial. If you choose low-calorie or low-fat diets, they won't help you burn fat because these diets don't boost your metabolic rate!

Far from boosting your metabolic rate, these diets actually slow down your metabolism! Here is how: with a low-calorie or low-fat diet, your body doesn't get enough nutrition. Consequently it believes that it is going to die out of starvation. It immediately stops the fat burning process by slowing down your metabolic rate, and stores the fat deposits so that it could survive during starvation.

With low-calorie, low-fat, and starvation diets, you will most likely lose some weight, but as soon as you stop following that diet and return to your prior eating habits, you will gain back all of the weight that you lost, if not more!

So what types of diets should you choose? You should choose a diet that includes eating fruits and vegetables for sure. Natural fruits and vegetables are not only great for increasing your metabolism; they are also extremely effective at suppressing your hunger!

But healthy diet plans may not always have all of the best traits that a good diet should have. Good diets should allow you to cheat at least once a week. You can use these cheat days to eat whatever you want. You may be afraid that taking a short break from your diet will cause weight gain, well you'd be wrong. It will actually help you lose fat by increasing your metabolism because it keeps your body from getting stuck in a routine, which can slow your metabolism!

Apart from that, it would also satiate you mentally so that you can focus on your diet plan for the rest of the week without any craving for forbidden foods.

2. Exercises: While a diet plan alone is enough for significant weight loss, many people try adding some intense workouts into their routines so they can accelerate the weight loss process! Strength and cardio training are the best ways increase weight loss. With strength training, you will not only burn fat, but you also add valuable lean muscle to your body.

Lean muscle is really important to overall health. It makes your body stronger and also helps you burn fat, even while you're resting. As a matter of fact, you can easily burn around fifty more calories per day for every pound of muscle! This is because muscles need more calories in order to sustain themselves.

Follow these two tips and see how easily you get rid of thigh fat!

Coping Mechanisms For Rheumatoid Arthritis

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

by Andrew John

If you or someone from your family suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and you need some help and advice, you're reading the right article. Rheumatoid arthritis as you probably already know all too well, is a potentially dangerous autoimmune disorder that is responsible for much more than just problems with joints, but may also affect the condition of heart and lungs. What is worse, rheumatoid arthritis always attack both sides of the body simultaneously. For example, inflammations always happen at both hands at the same time. If you add to this the sad truth that this form of arthritis is also extremely painful, it is clear that this disease will cause problems to all who suffer from it - in every area of their lives.

Currently, there is no way to cure rheumatoid arthritis. Fortunately, there are a few ways to help those who suffer from this disease. From medications that slow down the progress of the disease and get rid of pain to small changes in one's lifestyle - there are still hundreds of things one can do to make the life a bit easier.

One thing that most people forgot about is to do exercises. Everything that will keep your joints moving will slow down the disease and improve your ability to move. Generally, most cardiovascular exercises are ok. However, you should still ask your doctor about it, especially if your condition is not perfect or if your internal organs are already affected. He should be able to give you a list of most beneficial articles as well as a list of those that you shouldn't do.

Another main issue is the pain which may sometimes become strong enough to prevent sleeping. The first thing one should do is to talk to a doctor. She will be able to give you some sleeping pills that will make getting to sleep much easier. For pain however, you should rely more on heat and cold to reduce it rather than on the pills. Hot baths and ice placed right on the joint in pain will surely help a lot.

The diet may also have a profound effect on rheumatoid arthritis. Omega-3 fatty acids are known to improve the condition of joints and seriously reduce the pain felt by those affected with rheumatoid arthritis. Omega-3 can be found in fish or in food supplements such as Omega Daily.

Nine Tricks to Staying Slim in 2009

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

by Dorthy Weatherbush

Nobody likes the word 'diet'. It brings to mind scrimping and going without all the things you love. It's especially difficult to reinforce your will power after the holiday season.

But it's not all bad. There really are plenty of ways to lose pounds quickly without having to go without and it's much easier than you think - once you know how. You can start the New Year with some great weight loss results with these easy tips.

Here are the top nine tips to lose pounds in 2009.

1. Water Many people do not drink water at all, and yet it is the best way to naturally clean out your body and simultaneously shed pounds. Drinking enough water is so easy. Just drink a glass of water before every meal and snack and you will feel rehydrated and fuller so you will be less tempted to over-eat at mealtimes.

2. Fiber Fiber is a brilliant weight-loss secret that can help you lose weight at the same time as making you feel full. You can actually reduce your hunger pangs by eating enough fiber in your diet. Simple foods like fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, legumes, and beans will increase your fiber intake, make you feel full faster and help you lose weight quicker.

3. Snacks Staying slim does not require starving yourself. You should definitely snack throughout the day in between meals. Your metabolism will increase by snacking, helping your weight loss. Be careful however of what snacks you choose to eat; remember they should be healthy snacks. It's definitely okay to eat nuts, fruit, and even a snack size tub of yogurt or baked rice crispies. Moreover, just be smart about your snack choices.

4. Walk Take every opportunity to walk. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park further away from the store and walk the rest of the way. Stroll around the block with your dog or with a friend. Switch on your stereo and just wiggle to the music.

5. Grill it up Switch from frying foods to grilling them, order grilled when you go out to eat. Grilling is easier than and just as tasty as frying. It's healthier and has fewer calories than fried foods.

6. Side Dishes We as a society are conditioned to believe that a meal is not complete without a side of French fries. Try replacing fries with a salad or with steamed vegetables for a healthier option.

7. Processed Foods Pre-packaged deli ham, chicken and turkey are quick and easy to have available in the fridge, but they have high levels of sodium. Sodium makes your body retain fluid and makes it harder for you to lose weight. Don't buy pre-packaged processed foods whenever possible. Opt for fresh options.

8. Keep It Lean Red meat and poultry are not off limits; just remember to buy the leanest cuts available. Trim off excess fat and cut off the skin from chicken. Grill your meat to keep the goodness in and minimize the amounts of fat.

9. Meal Replacement Meal replacement diets can be a very handy way to shed pounds quickly. Simply replace your normal lunches with a great replacement shake so you're still getting all the nutrients you need without all the calories to go with it.

Keep up with these simple tips and you'll be surprised how easy it is to lose weight quickly.

Healthy Vegetarian Diet Article

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

by James Richardson

The whole intention with a vegetarian resource center is to have informative information waiting to help you with this recently new lifestyle change. It will present you with all the beneficial info on nutrition. Likely these resource centers will be non profit and with that, should be dedicated to education only. Check for there reference guide.

Resource groups for vegans will be open to new ideas for all topics for new food combos and also how to deal with your family on Thanksgiving. The Vegan how to group will be a great help with all the challenges of your meat eating friends. Use it as your fact center for this new vegetarian lifestyle.

This society of vegetarians has many sub groups within them and there standards are by no means the same. A vegan will not even wear a shirt or skirt made of silk because harm could have happened to the silk worm. On the other hand some vegetarians think it is ok to have fish, eggs and cheese. What is funny is the food labels act if there are no differences among vegetarian types.

Some people choose what they eat simple by if it is going to cause harm and/or death to anything living. If you choose that your choice is going to be somewhat limited. You will have just mostly nuts and pasta with some tomato sauce. Very little in fine cuisine will be eaten.

Vegetarian practices may seem like a bunch of annoying things but they are not. I have been a vegetarian most of my life with all the talk about energy ratio to produce your flesh, come on now, last time I checked; cows eat grass. Bring back the farms; they have worked for thousands of years.

Vegetarian dietary practices have the potentially to save so much in health care costs. There would be less cancer without the fat from the meat. Heart disease and obesity would be far less; sorry I am getting on a rant.

If you are new to the vegetarian lifestyle, a gradual change would be best for most. Make the move with using many more mushrooms, keep it familiar at first. If you do not do this you will cram youself full of facts you don not need at first. You will be able to live without animal protein.

So do you want a healthier lifestyle? A permanent reduction in your weight, blood pressure, maybe cholesterol should sound good. The meat industry wants you to think you are going to fall over without it. Your diet will be mostly the same things you already enjoy with fruits and vegetables that you eat today.

The Ugly Truth about Colon Cleansers

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

by Dorthy Weatherbush

We've all heard the old adage as it relates to weight loss. Eat less and exercise more is a simple solution to an all too common problem today. Everyone appears to be looking for the shortcut. The question is not, "how can I maintain a healthy lifestyle", rather it is how can I do what I want to do and then find a colon cleansing product to purify me from the poison I put into my body. Colon cleansers can be a great tool however they should not be thought of as a quick fix to help you loose those last few pounds.

At this moment, many of the statistics say that you probably have between 4 and 9 pounds of fecal matter attached to the walls of your colon. The side affects of this can be as simple as constant constipation, gas, indigestion and maybe even acid reflux disease. The reality is that if you are faced with most if not all of these symptoms, perhaps the time has come for a complete cleanse. Many of the best cleanses to use are the natural products that are specially prepared to cleanse the colon and detoxify your liver. They key is that you should feel better after a more alert and refreshed after a colon cleanse and not the reverse.

It's when people decide to use colon cleansers as a weight loss tool that things become "ugly." First of all, if you have a lot of weight to lose, then colon cleansing is not your answer. An initial cleanse will only result in about 4-8 pounds lost. After that, you will simply be eliminating everything you eat, nutrients and all. This is not healthy. Using an herbal remedy for colon cleansing, you could jump-start your weight loss journey with a clean colon. Maintaining a healthy diet after cleaning out your colon would be a safer choice.

There a number of different types of colon cleansers. Liquid cleansers, which require you to eat nothing, and pills that are consumed in conjunction with a diet high in fiber and raw foods such as fruits and vegetables are the most common types. Colon cleansing is not a quick one-time solution for weight loss. For a colon cleanser to have the most optimum effect, one still has to change their diet and lifestyle. Otherwise, the weight is going to keep coming back.

Think of your body as a sponge. When using that sponge in the course of a day, it can get really dirty and dingy. Now what happens when you run water over the sponge in an effort to rinse it out? The debris and dirt fall away from the sponge down the drain. If you squeeze the sponge, even more of the residue is released. Well, the same is true of our bodies. Yes, a colon cleanse may cause insignificant weight loss but think about the lasting benefits of having all of the gunk out of you.

So in an effort to respond to the question, are colon cleansers safe, yes most of them are safe however they can be harmful if not properly followed and supervised under a doctor's care. On the other hand, if you are simply trying a colon cleanse simply to lose weight then you are under a false impression and are taking a colon cleanser for the wrong reason. It would be in your best interest to identify a proven diet program and follow it to the letter versus following some claim made on late night television.

The Famous Master Cleanse Recipe

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

by Linda Riley

Master cleanse diet is a diet that requires the individual to drink lemonade cocktail for as long as the master cleanse program lasts. The recipe behind the master cleanse diet is very easy to follow and formulate. All you need to do is just to drink at at least 60 ounces of lemonade a day but limit yourself to 120 ounces. As master cleanse is a process of removing the waste in your body, you will experience lots of water loss. Hence, you also need to drink lots of water to prevent dehydration. A simple guideline to follow on the amount of water to consume is to drink an equivalent of your weight in water.

If you want to make a glass of master cleanse, you will need 10 ounces of filtered water, two table spoon of maple syrup, two tablespoon of lemon juice and 1/10 teaspoon of cayenne pepper. However, if you prefer to make 60 ounces at one go, you will need 60 ounces of filtered water, 12 tablespoon of maple syrup, 12 tablespoon of lemon juice and teaspoon of cayenne pepper. One small tip is to use freshly squeezed lemon juice instead of canned or processed one.

Another factor to note is that you must use organic grade B maple syrup and not sugar filled syrup. And although the Cayenne pepper looks as if it can be excluded, it is actually very important. The cayenne actually helps to break down the mucus and promote a healthy blood flow. Beside this, it is also a rich source of Vitamins B and C. If you wish to add flavor to the lemonade, just use decaffeinated tea because caffeine constrict the blood vessels. During the master cleanse, we actually wishes to promote a good flow of the blood so that the waste and toxin can be easily removed from the body.

To control your hunger pangs, you can try using Hoodia but follow the recommended dosage. If you are tired of drinking lemonade, you can also switch to natural laxative. Another thing is that psyllium husk can also assist in removing the hardened feces in the body.

There are basically 3 kinds of natural laxatives which are recommended o be used with the master cleanse. They are herbal laxative tea, psyllium husk and sea salts. These are some of the best methods of for cleaning your intestines without using enemas. Just use the laxative twice daily, together with the master cleanse and you will get maximum benefit. As mentioned earlier, just make sure you drink a lot of water to counter the effects of dehydrations while using the master cleanse diet.

Getting Back Your Groove after New Years Eve Party Hardy

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

by Lidia Peru

We love to celebrate, and one of the biggest celebrations is New Years Eve. For many their idea of a good time is a little bit of good food and a whole lot of tasty alcoholic beverages. The question remains " how do you feel the next morning?

Many of us have had a hangover, but few of us think about what alcohol does to our body. There is more than a few empty calories, alcohol depletes your vital vitamins and minerals. To make things even worse, that night of pleasure makes digestion a problem, meaning you cannot easily replenish those lost nutrients.

There are many things you can do to restore your health and wellness. Am I talking about a nutritional drink? Yes, but not those really expensive ones that are so popular these days. What about a nutritional pH rebalancing drink that costs pennies per serving? I found it in Kombucha Tea.

When you drink Kombucha here is what you get: Enzymes, Acetic acid, Carbonic acid, Folic Acid, Gluconic acid, Glucuronic acid, L(+) Lactic, Usnic acid, Amino acids (various), Hydroxy acids (various), Vitamin B1 (Thiamin), Vitamin B2(Riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (Niacin, niacinamide), Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine), Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin, cyanocobalamin), Vitamin C (from Lactic acid).

Most of us eat a very acidic diet. The meat, alcohol and cola diet is a different, and harmful type of acid balance, different than the acids found in Kombucha. This natural food based drink restores pH balance and gives energy. It is balancing and supportative for the body.

One of the vital minerals we lose from alcohol consumption is Magnesium. Did you know that magnesium is vital for our health, and is used in many functions in the body, including heart function? Most of us are already low in our magnesium, and drinking further reduces our internal supply.

When your magnesium level is low and your digestive tract is struggling you cannot absorb the nutrients, like magnesium, that is contained in your food. Another option is to increase the magnesium level through an IV like they do in the emergency room. Thats a little drastic. Try transdermal magnesium, like a magnesium bath, gel or oil applied to your skin.

You need magnesium to complete over 300 of the enzyme functions in your body. Magnesium impacts our blood sugar, our ability to calm ourselves, sleep, and many mental health functions.

There is no reason you need to let your hang over hang around. After a night of partying, or any time you want to relax and recharge at the same time, try a magnesium bath using a quality transdermal magnesium product.
