Billions of dollars are spent on dieting. Most obestiry research is funded by dieting companies. Interesting to note is dieting is at its lowest level ever. According to NPD only 26% of women are dieting and 16% of men.

When it comes to dieting what is the best approach? An approach that is being used more and more is to use PC dieting software. And of all the dieting software available in the marketplace today, one of the most effective programs is called Diet Power. Diet Power can be installed on any PC and the program helps you lose weight using any of the popular well known diet programs- or not using any diet programs.

What is an Antioxidant?

You have heard of the power behind green tea being it's antioxidant and the power to increase it in the human body right? Do you know exactly what an antioxidant is and what it can do for you?

Antioxidants do not do anything to oxygen. Antioxidants fight a chemical reaction called oxidation. This is the same process that causes metals to rust. Oxidation is the mingling between oxygen molecules and what they come in contact with. If it is living tissue where this occurs then that's when damage of disease occurs.

The harm caused by oxidation, is result of free radicals, highly reactive, unstable molecules that travel around the body wreaking havoc. Although free radicals can be generated by exposure to UV rays, toxins, cigarette smoke, microbes and other sources, the most common source is the oxygen molecule itself.

Oxygen typically travels throughout the body in pairs, and these two molecules share electrons. But sometimes this double molecule splits into two separate oxygen molecules called singlet oxygen. When this happens, there are no longer enough electrons to go around, so each oxygen molecule ends up one electron short. This destabilizes the molecule, in a sense throwing it off balance. In order too stabilize itself, it races off throughout the body in search of another electron.

The single molecule does not just sit around waiting for another electron to become available, what this little bugger does is it goes around and find ones to steal. So what happens to the molecule that just had it's electron stolen, well, it goes and steals it's own from another molecule. This process of stealing back and forth causes damage to the cells and it often though to be a leading contributor to cancer, heart disease and aging.

Antioxidants work against "electron stealing" by neutralizing and stabilizing free radicals. They do this by donating an electron so that singlet oxygen and other free radicals no longer have the urge to "steal." And while the body does produce a certain amount of antioxidants for the express purpose of taking care of such problems, it also needs the added help of antioxidants found in foods.

Among others, these include beta-carotene, vitamins C and E, the mineral selenium, and various phytochemicals such as lycopene and quercetin. But the catechins, especially EGCg, are among the most powerful and effective antioxidants of all.

Weight Loss Pills - Eat All You Want And Lose Weight?

When you are putting together a plan to lose weight, you will find that there are many occasions when weight loss pills are a part of it. These pills can be instrumental in helping you lose the weight that has been creeping on to you over an extended period of time, and you will discover that it can be part of a weight loss plan, just like a better exercise program. When you are looking to use weight loss pills, you'll find that they can complement a good exercise program, but you have to think about whether not they are safe.

Some weight loss pills contain only herbal or natural ingredients. These work by curbing the appetite and some also include dietary supplements and multi vitamins which can psychologically help a dieter. In addition to the weight loss pills, the dieter will need to watch what they eat, make sure their portions are reasonably sized and get more exercise.

When you are looking at diet pills, you are going to wonder whether or not they are really safe for you. When you look at the FDA, you will soon see that there are no tests performed on over the counter drugs, and just as there is no monitoring, there is also no proof that they work, with the exception of Alli. If you have been watching the news or listening to news about weight loss drugs, you have heard about the issues that have arisen with Ephedra.

Since over the counter diet pills are not FDA governed and none have been approved apart from Alli, there are no guarantees about side effects or even whether the weight loss pills you buy will work. A lot of over the counter weight loss pills contain caffeine as the appetite suppressant. They do nothing more than drinking a lot of coffee would do for you but at several times the price. Some people are allergic to diet pills or suffer from side effects.

Because overweight people tend to have a discipline issue when it comes to calorie intake, the weight loss pills may do little to change their behaviors or metabolism and they will continue to gain weight, so they will give up. Some weight loss pills claim you can still eat all you want and lose weight, but this has seldom been found to be true.

If you want to lose weight, you have to consume fewer calories than you burn, whether or not you are taking weight loss pills. If you do not lower your calorie intake, diet pills are not going to miraculously take off the weight by themselves. You can use diet pills as an additional diet aid but you should not take them with other medications before speaking to your doctor first.

To lose weight, you need to think about eating the right amounts, eating to keep your metabolism up, giving your body the food that it needs and giving yourself enough variety so that a low fat diet stays interesting to you.

When you are looking at weight loss pills, think about how expensive they are and think about what you are really paying for. Especially if you are also taking medicine for your heart or for high blood pressure, think about the act that you need to look after your money. A Permanent Diet is the Key to Finding a Diet That Works

People are continually searching for diets that work. Many go from one diet program to the next thinking this next one will be the one that solves my weight issues. Finding a diet that one can follow and stick with tends to be the real issue at hand versus actually finding a diet that works.

Examine the products and services that make up the dieting industry. There are countless numbers of weight loss products -- diet food programs, dieting guides, diet books, trainers and nutritionists. In 2005, the diet industry was worth over $46.8 billion dollars. A lot of money is stems from people trying to lose weight versus people actually losing weight. The sad truth is that the focus becomes selling method and products that are not permanent, because repeat business is what brings in the money.

Take this diet as an example. Combine limiting caloric intake to 1000 calories a day with at least 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 days a week. If you practice this diet, you would most definitely lose weight.

But there are two problems. The first is that cravings are likely to ruin the diet. Sooner or later, particularly after returning home from work outs, those 1000 calories won't be enough to satisfy. One piece of cake, or just one bag of chips, or one extra hot dog will soon steer you to dropping off the diet. The second problem is what happens after the diet ends? What happens when the weight is gone? You'll go right back to eating the same way you ate before the diet? Then, guess what. The weight will return. Next spring, or next time to wear that dress or tuxedo, or next vacation, or simply the next time you glance at a mirror on the way out of the shower it will be time to return to a diet to lose the unwanted pounds.
