Trampolines - Keep Rover Away!

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

by Jane Bracken

Manas best friend is one of the best companions a person can have in life. Theyare great for relieving stress and having a friend that will never abandon you. However, one place that Fido shouldnat go to is your friendly neighborhood trampoline. While funny to watch if itas not your dog, trampoline can be dangerous for the unsuspecting canine, and itas best to keep them away, but sometimes that can be easier said than done.

When considering the purchase of your new trampoline, don't forget that dogs love to chew on what they will consider their new chew toy. Be alert to how your dog interacts with you in the back yard and consider what may come of your new trampoline at the hands of your dog. One good way to keep dogs away from your trampoline is to use a fencethis can save costly damage to both the trampoline and to the dog.

Fences can come in a variety of styles and types. The most obvious being an actual fence that goes around the trampoline or blocks the trampoline area from where the dog has access. Several important considerations include how strong the fence foundation will be (will it be secured by cement blocks, wooden stakes, or will it simply stand on top of the ground), what the fence will be made of (lightweight wood can break more easily when impacted by the force of a dog running into it than a metal chain link fence can), and how high the fence will be (bigger dogs can, and will, jump over smaller fences if they really want to get to the trampoline).

The fence can be made additionally unwelcoming by adding accessories such as chicken wire to it. While not particularly appealing visually, it certainly does the trick. Jumping over a fence becomes very difficult and dogs wonat risk injury for it.

Another idea is to install an electric fence or to hot wire your existing fence. This is probably not a first option for many people, but should prove useful in harder circumstances. You can easily control how much of a shock runs through the fence. The best thing to do is to just have the fence provide a stinging sensation. Most dogs will stay away from your fence without ever having to touch it to test it.

Further, you can keep dogs off of your trampoline simply by setting its height. Keep in mind the height of the trampoline when you consider your choices for purchasemake it high to keep the dog away. Don't try to make the trampoline taller on your ownit is probably not safe. You can build a sturdy foundation under your trampoline, but don't just stack up a few cinder blocks. Be certain that your trampoline is safe for anyone that may use it, and consider that it must be securely fastened to the earth in some manner.

One of the best ways to keep Fido away is by keeping the trampoline away from the dog. Larger trampolines are cumbersome, and once setup most people are reluctant to put it away soon after. The nursery trampoline is a great alternative to larger trampolines. Small and compact, it can be easily folded and put away when not in use, and it ensures no unauthorized use takes place both by the dog and the kids. A nursery trampoline is also typically less expensive, so it makes for a great introductory purchase when trampoline buying.

Keeping the dog inside your house is even better than building obstacles to keep the dog away from the trampoline. Although it is nice to include the dog in our door play, it is probably better not to entice him or her into playing on the trampoline. Take the dog out and play with him or her regularly, so as to reduce the "forbidden love" that many dogs develop for trampolines. Keep your pet in mind when deciding whether or not to purchase a trampoline. In all reality, no matter how hard you try, the dog and the trampoline may sometime get together. The dog is a bigger part of your life than your trampolinenobody ever called their trampoline "man's best friend.

Tips to get a ripped stomach

Monday, January 5th, 2009

by Tony D. Martinez

Do you want to have great six-pack abs or did you have them back in the day and you would really like them back? Well, imagine yourself at the beach on a sunny day and taking off your shirt to reveal toned abs for everyone to see. Wouldn't that be nice!

If you are in a position where you want a stomach that you can show off, you'll find that you aren't going to get there by wishing! While getting a six pack is more straightforward than you might think, it still takes work and commitment. If you are looking to get started, make sure that you keep the following tips in mind.

The first and most important thing is to ensure you have a varied workout plan. Plan a workout routine that gives you challenges on a daily basis. Having a routine that makes you comfortable or getting used to a set of exercises will not push your body enough to get the improvements you're after.

You must push and challenge yourself if you don't want it to reach a stagnation point. When you start something new, your body will work hard and there will be a lot of improvement in results but after some time the body starts to get used to that particular routine and you won't gain as much. Therefore it is necessary to keep changing your workout routine.

This change is also needed to keep your interest alive. It is no fun to follow the same routine daily. If you allow yourself to become bored then there is nothing to inspire and keep you interested. If you really want to succeed, do different exercises every now and then to hold your interest and avoid monotony.

It is a myth that you need to concentrate only on abdominal exercises to get your dream abs. Of course they are important but you are going to get results faster if you maintain a full body exercise routine. This way you are going to have stronger muscles to support your abdominal muscles and make them work. Another advantage of full body workout is that your metabolic rate is going to improve. You are going to get faster results in your weight loss as compared to what you would have achieved by focusing only on your abs.

Sleep is vital for ensuring that the body repairs itself. Abs do not come easy. A lot of work is needed and thus the body is going to be really pushed to the limit. Your body needs sleep in order to rest and rejuvenate so ensure that you are getting enough.

There is a wealth of information out there on getting toned abs. Perhaps the best tip that I can give you is to make sure that you have a planned schedule. Having this, and sticking to it, is for many people one of the biggest motivating factors. Before starting on your exercises be sure to do some research. Once you find a program that is suited to you, you've taken your first major step to getting that six-pack you've been dreaming of.

Massive Strength Development with Pull Ups

Monday, January 5th, 2009

by Marcus Martinez

Pull ups are a powerful exercise that unfortunately, many people avoid like the plague. The reason is simple, pull ups are difficult! Many people have trouble doing one pull up, much less a workout incorporating many. That's too bad because pull ups have the ability to dramatically increase shoulder, back, and grip strength in no time.

Performing strength exercises are like investing your money. You want to make your money work for you and the same goes for your workouts. You want an exercise that gives you the most bang for your buck. Why pick an exercise that only hits your upper back when a pull up hits everything. It works your grip and hand strength. Just hanging on the bar can do that. It works your arms and shoulders and of course it works your entire back. Not to mention the ab work from keeping your core from swaying.

All in all, you will develop a strong body by incorporating pull ups, but now the question is, what if you can't even do one!? As the saying goes, if you want to lift more, you have to lift more. If you want to do pull ups, you have to do pull ups. Here's a plan that will get you on your way.

Kettlebell guru Pavel Tsatsouline teaches the Grease the Groove technique to show people how to increase their ability to perform an exercise. Here's how it works: over a long period (1 to 8 hours), you do as many reps as you can of an exercise. So for pull ups, you would do at least one rep every time you walk by a pull up bar. If you do it throughout the day, even if you're only able to do one rep at a time you'll still have done a number of reps and have built the strength needed to eventually do multiple reps during one set.

Say you don't have access to a pull up bar for a whole day (if you'd like to buy one, I recommend the Tactical Athlete Pull Up System). No problem! You can Grease the Groove during your gym session. During an hour long workout, try doing a few pull ups every 5 minutes or so. By the end of the hour, you'll have done at least 10 to 12 pull ups.

If you really want to get into doing pull ups and other workouts that require a stationary bar (like ring training), I recommend the Tactical Athlete Pull Up System produced and sold by TacticalAthlete.com. This system assembles easily in about 15 minutes and is perfect for a garage or outdoor location.

The height, portability, and stability of the Tactical Athlete Pull Up System are what make it special. The adjustable height allows you to do exercises with a full hang, no matter how tall you are. The portability also allows you to put it up wherever you want to workout, whether that be in your garage, backyard, or at a park. For doing pull ups, nothing beats it.

5 Questions To Ask About Meal Replacement Diets

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

by Dorthy Weatherbush

Before undertaking a meal replacement program, you should ask some simple but very important questions. Protect your health and your pocketbook by asking the following five questions:

1. How effective is the program? The first thing you'll want to know is whether the program you're considering actually works. After all, your goal in starting a meal replacement program is to lose weight. Avoid programs that can't prove their effectiveness or provide little in the way of real guidance and support. If the program can't provide examples of successful clients, consider looking elsewhere.

2. What kind of professional supervision is provided? Meal replacement programs should always be undertaken while under proper medical supervision. Emotional support and medical evaluation are both critical to any weight loss program, particularly a meal replacement program. Because you are spending your time and money in a program, the program should offer you in return the professional guidance you need to be successful at reaching your goals.

3. What kind of ongoing maintenance support do you offer? Losing the weight is only the first step. It is the very beginning of a lifelong change in lifestyle and dietary habits. You will need support to stay on track once you've reached your goal weight. Choose programs that help keep you motivated and connected with follow up support, and offer options for intervention should you start to regain weight.

4. How much does it cost? The important point of this question is not that you should try to skimp out and choose the "cheapest" program, but you should choose a program that gives you your money's worth. You could end up paying thousands of dollars for food, enrollment fees, and other hidden fees for a regimen that is poorly designed that doesn't work. Furthermore, it may offer no training or support. However, a program that is less expensive could be highly effective. All in all, choose the best program that fits with your budget.

5. Are there hidden costs, and do you provide refunds? A weight loss program that offers a money back guarantee is the true mark of a confident program. A program that has confidence in its product and the competence of its support staff will always give you your money back if you aren't satisfied with the results. Reputable programs will be upfront with you regarding costs and what you will ultimately end up paying.

When you consider each of these factors, Medifast stands out from all the rest. Medifast offers a proven and effective program backed by solid medical support. They can help connect you with a physician familiar with the Medifast plan, and the cost of the program is reasonable - even less than what a single person typically spends each month on groceries. Unopened, unused products can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. Coaching and support is offered online and in person at Medifast centers across the country. Like countless others, discover how Medifast can help you lose weight and keep it off.

Muscle Building After Your 40th Birthday

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

by Ricardo d Argence

When it comes to work outs and staying in shape that age factor is a definite factor in how you will approach your fitness regimen, but they say that age is just a number. Some use being over the age of 40 as an excuse not regularly workout or live in a healthy style.

Regular exercise and staying fit are very important no matter what your age. If you approach weight training, diet and work outs the correct way you can maintain a remarkably healthy and fit body for many years, regardless of your age. There are many benefits of both weightlifting and bodybuilding. You can reshape your body, become healthier, increase bone density and weight loss.

It is no secret that people who keep physically fit also feel better about themselves and about life in general. People who exercise also experience the release of endorphins from the brain, which helps, maintain a sense of happiness and well-being.

When you are 40 years old and older you might want to make a couple of changes in your workout, but you do not have to be victim of the publicity about aging. With age, the muscles and joints become less supple, further necessitating appropriate amount of stretching and warm up before exercising.

A time frame of 15 minutes is needed for stretching routines so you can increase flexibilty and lessen the chance for muscle pain, sprains or other damage. Your muscles will become better conditioned the more complete you stretch.

Now you should do fifteen minutes worth of cardio exercises on an elliptical training machine, a stair stepper or an exercise bike. You are not attempting to reach your limit with this one; however, you do want your heart rate to increase and to continue to develop your limberness and flexibilty. This exercise will let your body know that you are serious about doing some work.

You will want to follow this warm up by doing reps with the correct weights, you should consider light weights for this workout, if in addition to this you are doing circuit training or a free weight routine you will not have the stress of heavy weights.

When using the pyramid system, you add reps but use less weight, then you start adding weight and decreasing the reps, which is how a lot of the bodybuilders do their workouts. Pay constant attention to your posture. This method of weightlifting has great success for those who want to add muscle and bulk to their bodies. Even if it means decreasing the weights or the amount of repititions, correct posture must be your main consideration. This maximizes your results and reduces your risk of injury.

You should train weights for about 30-45 minutes per session for at least 4 days a week. When you conclude your session of weight training, you may choose to do the cardio session again in order to tone your lungs and hearts; it's also a great way to wind down.
