by Dallas F Thomas

Getting rid of cellulite is a hard ask. If you have investigated the many products around that claim to reduce cellulite quickly and easily then you know that it can be confusing as to what actually works and what doesn't. However, the concept of losing cellulite is not as hard as you think - it just requires dedicated effort to reap the rewards you are after.

While these tips sound easy it really takes a lot of dedication to implement them and stay on track in the long term. Getting rid of cellulite is not an easy task and will require your to keep at it even when you don't see the results straight away.

Make Your Weightloss Goals a Reality in 2009!

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

by Julie Morris and Sarah Morris Cherry

Do you arm yourself with a candy bar when battling your worries? I did, for more years than I'd like to admit. When I turned to food to fix my worries, food fixed me real good! The more I ate, the fatter and more stressed out I got. But for some strange reason, that didn't stop me from heading for the refrigerator or grabbing a few of my favorite candy bars when I was upset. And I was upset A LOT.

I was the RN supervisor of a large medical-surgical floor in a hospital-telling everybody what to do to get healthy, and I felt like a dummy because I couldn't stop overeating even though it made my blood pressure soar. My doctor told me I could have a stroke if I didn't lose weight, so guess what I did: I went home and ate everything I could get my hands on. A doctor I worked with congratulated me for being pregnant--when I wasn't--and I swore I would eat 500 calories until I wore a size 3, but I'll bet you can guess what I did instead: I ate until I was about to pop.

I wanted to be thin more than anything in the world, so why couldn't I quit overeating? I didn't understand it then, but I do now. When we eat, our bodies secrete feel-good brain chemicals--neurotransmitters, such as serotonin. So eating really does relieve stress temporarily.

The problem is that when we turn to food to fix our problems, they only grow, and so do we!

Twenty-five years ago, after a lifetime of overeating and stressing out, I began discovering practical ways to lose the weight and worries that weighed me down. Here are three things that did, and still do:

I started writing in a Prayer Journal about things that were stressing me out. I learned that resentments are fattening, pouting puts pounds on and worries widen hips so I cast those cares on God, and not on the refrigerator. I stopped playing games with my eating. Some of my favorites-- "Broken Cookies Don't Count," "Fudge Is My Fortress," "I've Already Blown It Today So What I Eat Now Won't Hurt Me."

I joined a group of people who wanted to lose weight. I love talking to others who think like I do and have the same struggles with food I used to have. We have fun while getting to the roots of our overeating. After awhile, most of them are amazed to find themselves shrinking outside while growing inside.

A Permanent Diet is the Key to Finding a Diet That Works

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

by Melissa Moore

People are continually searching for diets that work. Many go from one diet program to the next thinking this next one will be the one that solves my weight issues. Finding a diet that one can follow and stick with tends to be the real issue at hand versus actually finding a diet that works.

Examine the products and services that make up the dieting industry. There are countless numbers of weight loss products -- diet food programs, dieting guides, diet books, trainers and nutritionists. In 2005, the diet industry was worth over $46.8 billion dollars. A lot of money is stems from people trying to lose weight versus people actually losing weight. The sad truth is that the focus becomes selling method and products that are not permanent, because repeat business is what brings in the money.

Take this diet as an example. Combine limiting caloric intake to 1000 calories a day with at least 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 days a week. If you practice this diet, you would most definitely lose weight.

But there are two problems. The first is that cravings are likely to ruin the diet. Sooner or later, particularly after returning home from work outs, those 1000 calories won't be enough to satisfy. One piece of cake, or just one bag of chips, or one extra hot dog will soon steer you to dropping off the diet. The second problem is what happens after the diet ends? What happens when the weight is gone? You'll go right back to eating the same way you ate before the diet? Then, guess what. The weight will return. Next spring, or next time to wear that dress or tuxedo, or next vacation, or simply the next time you glance at a mirror on the way out of the shower it will be time to return to a diet to lose the unwanted pounds.

The best diet is one that you follow forever. There are a lot folks that are beginning to steer from the fad diets and now understand that to lose weight, it's best to make a whole lifestyle change, including exercising regularly and eating a healthy diet.

Connie Guttersen created the Sonoma Diet which, as a base, focuses on 10 "power foods." The power foods are almonds, bell peppers, blueberries, broccoli, grapes, olive oil, spinach, strawberries, tomatoes and whole grains, combined with the diet of the Sonoma country, which includes Asian, Latin American and Mediterranean foods and dishes. It's easy to remain on this diet as it has a wide selection of real, and enjoyable foods.

Want a diet that works? Move your mind from a short term diet to a long term style that's part of an overall healthy and active lifestyle. That way you won't put on the pounds in the first place.

Weight Loss Tips - It’s Not Sugar, You Can’t Fool Your Body!

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

by Henry John

Is cutting out sugar a good thing if you want to lose weight? Well, you decide to do it anyway. No more sugar in coffee for a start - and what about ready meals and fast food? You're going to take a good look at the labels and bin anything that has any sugar in it. You're taking positive action and it feels good, but are you wasting your time?

Despite what you may think, refined sugar is not a food, it's a chemical. It's extracted from plants, which contain no fiber, no minerals, no proteins, no fats and no enzymes. It is made up of empty calories.

When you eat sugar, you put your body in a bit of a dilemma. In order to metabolize the sugar it has to borrow nutrients from other cells. When your brain gets the message that its reserves are being depleted, it sends out hunger signals. Your reaction is to come to its rescue - usually with some high-calorie food. The result is weight gain.

Having stopped taking sugar you may feel the need to have something sweet - you'd be unusual if you didn't. If you choose a sugar supplement like saccharin or aspartame you are making an error.

What has been puzzling scientists is that the obesity crisis has continued to grow despite a massive increase in the use of sugar substitutes.

Scientists have now discovered that far from helping weight loss, sugar substitutes could actually be the cause of weight gain!

At Perdue University scientists carried out experiments with animals - some were fed food containing natural sweeteners and others food with artificial sweeteners. The results were alarming. The animals that were fed artificial sweeteners actually gained weight. The reason this happened is that our/their bodies associate sweetness with food loaded with calories. When the body recognizes that the food containing artificial sweeteners is not loaded with calories, it compensates by sending out hunger signals and we eat more to make up the shortfall - the result is weight gain.

So what about sugar? The best thing to do is to reduce sugar intake gradually, but most importantly, avoid artificial sweeteners.

How Can Hoodia Help You Get Six Pack Abs?

Monday, November 10th, 2008

by Vince Delmonte

If you are anxious to get fat loss going, you've likely looked into the diet supplement, hoodia. Hoodia gordonii is a plant that was used in South African many years ago by hunters who would need to go for long durations of time without food and grows very slowly in harsh conditions and needs to be harvested for four to five years before it's ready.

But how well does Hoodia really work for fat loss? Many people turn to hoodia thinking it is the answer to all their prayers. Never hungry? Sounds like a dietary dream. After all, following a diet should be easy if you never have any feelings of hunger, shouldn't it?

Unfortunately, it isn't so simple.

First off, if you are a trying to get a lean, sexy midsection, not eating is the last thing you want to be doing. Sure, you definitely will need to eat less in order to lose body fat, but if you aren't eating enough, you'll actually just lose muscle rather than body fat. Since muscle tissue is your calorie burning engine, destroying it would be counterproductive to getting the results you want.

Who wants a slower metabolism at the end of the day? That'll just make further fat loss next to impossible.

If hoodia is affecting your natural hunger signals, it will be hard to get in the foods that you do need - the foods that will work with your body to lose the body fat while still keeping muscle tissue intact.

Secondly, you must understand that hoodia is not a thoroughly tested product and cannot be deemed safe. If you take enough of it, it can actually damage your metabolism, causing a variety of thyroid issues that will be stuck with you into the future. While fat loss and getting abs is important, you must do it a healthy way so that you don't do anything disrupting to your health.

Finally, hoodia diet pills are by no means a proper method to losing abdominal fat. In order to lose abdominal fat, you're going to have to find a method that will be sustainable over the long term. If you think that you're just going to skip eating for the years to come, you are very mistaken. You will not get the proper nutrients you need to sustain life, therefore, to put it bluntly, using hoodia as a means to help you maintain fat loss could very well put you in the hospital with severe malnutrition.

What you need is a diet that supplies all the nutrients you need, while still being affective with stomach fat loss. Then, you'll also need to make sure this diet is something you can work into your lifestyle so that your abs aren't going to be just covered up by more body fat again once you move off the diet.

The more time you waste chasing after gimmicky supplements that only hurt you in the long run, the more time you spend without the results you are after.

The Key To Weight Loss

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Consuming 1,800 mg of calcium a day could block the absorption of about 80 calories, according to a recent University of Tennessee study. Jump-start your calcium intake by filling your coffee mug with fat-free or 1% milk, drinking it down to the level you want in your coffee, then pouring in your caffeine fix. Consumer groups and opposition parties criticized the strategy yesterday for lacking bite.

The key to weight loss is to stick to the rules . If your rule needs to be no snacking after 10 p.m., then your key to success is to follow that rule with no exceptions. The key to weight loss and maintaining your weight loss is to create a lifestyle that includes exercise and a balanced diet, which meets your calorie needs to keep you at a healthful weight. The key to weight loss is control of calories through portion size and then adding exercise and physical activity to your daily routine. (more...)

Obese, Overweight, and Overhauled

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Overweight individuals who express a willingness to consider making a weight loss attempt at some future time may respond most favorably to a discussion of Roadblocks (barriers) and potential solutions. All discussions should be followed by an offer to help when the person is “ready” to attempt weight loss. Overweight people have an increased risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, and other illnesses. Losing weight reduces the risk. Overweight refers to an excess of body weight, but not necessarily body fat. Obesity means an excessively high proportion of body fat.
